CHESAPEAKE — A home should be more than just a place where you sleep at night before leaving for work the next day. It should be a location where life gets better for family and for friends.
Bernadette and Chris Lee, who live at 509 Foxgate Quarter in Chesapeake, have moved around a lot in their military career, but they say their current home and the neighborhood it’s in have helped them do just that.
“Our neighbors have become life-long friends,” said Bernadette. “There is a sense of family here in Foxgate Quarter that I have never experienced before in the 27 years of military life. We have lived in six different states – three repeats, but different areas – and Foxgate Quarter is by far the best.”
Their large 3,318-square-foot home features four bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths, but the star of the show is the backyard, where there is a pool, hot tub, large deck, and a sunroom for those times when being outside isn’t practical.
“We love the outdoor space we have,” Bernadette said. “It’s such a summertime treat to have friends and family over for a BBQ. The area is so large that those that want to splash away in the pool can do so without worrying about disturbing others. The deck has enough space to have not only a sitting area, and an eight-person table, but a fire pit area as well. There is also plenty of area around the pool for sunbathing.”
Chris and Bernadette added the hot tub themselves and also rebuilt the deck.
“We rebuilt the deck to allow for a more open space to entertain and we installed the hot tub,” she said.
There’s a hut over the hot tub so it can be enjoyed even when it’s raining or snowing.
She added that the sunroom also gets a lot of use. When it’s too hot or too cold outside, the space allows for a more comfortable setting.
“And there is something wonderful about sitting in there when it’s raining,” she said. “The sound is mesmerizing and the skylights are a neat touch as well.”
Debbie Blankman, a realtor with Howard Hanna and listing agent for the home, said that when it comes to entertaining the home is one of the largest in that neighborhood. “Plus, it’s on a nicely landscaped lot, the large driveway offers an abundance of off-street parking, and a covered entry on the side by the garage leads to a hallway off the kitchen so there’s no need to go through the garage.”
