In Yorktown, on Marlbank Drive, what was once farmland has now become a family neighborhood.
The custom homes attracted Terrie and Thomas Conner, owners of 802 Marlbank Drive.
“Everyone has more colonial, traditional, and this one is very contemporary,” Terrie Conner said. “With the high ceilings and all of the little touches that make it a very modern house.”
Some of the “little touches” that make the home unique are its fireplace, the sunroom attached to the downstairs master bedroom, and a stained glass window that was added to the master bedroom by the homeowners.
“I love that there’s a downstairs master. We added a sun-room to it about a year after we moved in, to have kind of a private oasis for the grown ups since we had little children.” Terrie Conner said. “It’s very pretty to be out there, and you can see a lot of wildlife.”
The stained glass window in the master bedroom adds a touch of history to the home, which was built in 1988.
“The stained glass, the center part… That came out of a 16th century Irish church.” Thomas Conner said.
Thomas Conner continued, “And then to fit it, we put the boarder around it, the opaque stained glass, to give us our height and width.”
Another fun detail the Conners say they enjoy about the custom home is the resemblance of the front stairs to a layered cake, as Terrie Conner explained:
“Everyone thought it was like a cake, a layered cake almost, as you come up, and that was kind of appealing. And one thing I really just love, just the whole architecture of the house, the roof line, it’s just interesting, it’s different, it’s not a cookie cutter. That’s something that is really appealing to us.”
