Virginia Symphony Orchestra to Celebrate the Season With Series of Holiday Concerts

HAMPTON ROADS — The Virginia Symphony Orchestra (VSO) will perform four holiday concerts throughout Hampton Roads from Dec. 10 through Dec. 18.

VSO’s Holiday POPS! concerts will put locals in the holiday spirit with seasonal songs and traditional carols, featuring the return of the VSO Chorus, led by Chorusmaster Robert Shoup.

Performances will be held on Dec. 10 at the Ferguson Center in Newport News; Dec. 11 at the Harrison Opera House in Norfolk and Dec. 12th at the Sandler Center in Virginia Beach.

VSO’s popular Jingle Bell Jam will offer fun for all ages. The 50-minute interactive concert will feature familiar music of the season, pre-concert activities and pictures with Santa.

Performances will be held Dec. 12 at 3 p.m. at the Sandler Center in Virginia Beach, with pre-concert activities beginning at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12 per child and $17 per adult.

The VSO brass section will take center stage in “Holiday Brass.” Led by conductor Helen Martell, Holiday Brass will perform Dec. 15 at Saint Bede Catholic Church in Williamsburg; Dec. 16 at Regent University in Virginia Beach; Dec. 17 at First Baptist Church in Newport News and Dec. 18 at the Harrison Opera House in Norfolk.

Finally, VSO will present George Frederic Handel’s “Messiah” led by VSO’s founding chorusmaster, Don McCullough, and featuring the Hallelujah Chorus on Dec. 16 at Regent University in Virginia Beach, Dec. 17 at First Baptist Church in Newport News, and Dec. 18 at the Harrison Opera House in Norfolk.
