Marcia Darlene Boyd (Whiting’s Funeral Home)

Dr. Marcia Darlene Boyd of Williamsburg, VA, entered eternal rest on October 7, 2026, surrounded by her loving family & friends. Marcia was born on January 17, 1962, in New York, New York. She has joined her beloved parents, Rosetta Edith Jackson-Smith and Harding Smith; husband, Vince Lamont Boyd Sr.; brothers, Ronald Smith and Otis Jackson Jr.; sister, Carolyn Smith; and aunt, Maurice Scott.

Marcia leaves to cherish her memory her two sons, Vince Lamont Boyd Jr. and Javon Watson; brothers, Mr. Morris Jackson Sr., Mr. Harding Smith Jr.; sister, Ms. Annette Joseph-Walker; sister-in-law, Ms. Trinnese Davis-Smith (Ronald Smith); brother-in-law, Mr. Kenneth Boyd (Lynette Boyd); along with countless loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of relatives and dear friends.

As the youngest of seven brothers and sisters, Marcia was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, who held closely to her faith. She was outstandingly a holder of three degrees. Firstly, graduating from Baruch College in 1984 with a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) in Marketing Management. She then went on to receive a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Human Resource Development in 2001 from George Washington University. She finally finished her tenure at George Washington University, receiving her Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Higher Education/Higher Education Administration in 2014. While dedicating most of her life and career to Higher Education and holding a multitude of positions in the field for 30+ years, she finished her career working for the Department of Education for thirteen years prior to retiring in December 2025. She was greatly admired and respected by her peers and colleagues as a leader in Higher Education, who aptly fought for the betterment of students, faculty, and staff at colleges and universities across the country.

Marcia truly lived life to the fullest, as her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Among many of her hobbies, she enjoyed gardening, interior design & decoration, listening to music, and reading. While she was a very goal-oriented individual who achieved many accomplishments professionally, her biggest accomplishment personally was successfully raising a family with her loving husband of 30 years, consisting of her two sons. Marcia was a truly fierce champion of her family and acted as the anchor in many ways during times of tremendous challenge, strife, grief, and sorrow. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her affectionately as either “Darlene”, “Aunt Darlene”, “Cia”, “Chu”, “Mrs. Boyd,” and professionally as “Dr. Boyd”.

God bless you, Marcia, as your soul has gained its wings in Heaven. May your soul rest in eternal peace now and forever always.
