Curtis Dorian Clopton was born on October 7, 1966, at Hutzel Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, to Sharron Clopton.
The eldest of two sons, Curtis attended Detroit Public Schools and graduated from Pershing High School. He became a father at a young age, welcoming his first daughter with his high school sweetheart. Three years later, he welcomed a second daughter, followed by a son. Over the course of his life, Curtis was married three times and took pride in providing for his family.
Known for his strong work ethic and resourcefulness, Curtis worked at Merchant’s Market and Budd Manufacturing, where he served as a lineman from 1985 until the company closed in 2006. After relocating to Virginia in 2009, he worked as a freelance contractor before joining the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority, where he dedicated many years of service. A natural problem-solver, Curtis enjoyed working on cars, making home repairs, and building things from scratch. Particularly skilled in tile work, he had a gift for turning ideas into reality and took great pride in his work.
Beyond his talents and work ethic, Curtis knew how to enjoy life. A smooth operator who appreciated good food, great music, and new experiences, he enjoyed traveling and making memories. In his later years, Curtis found the love of his life in Tamara Davis. Together, they enjoyed traveling, beach days, jazz music, and discovering new places. He especially enjoyed visiting New Orleans, where he made it his personal mission to eat as many oysters as humanly possible.
Curtis shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Blitz, whose loyalty and companionship brought him tremendous joy. His family takes comfort in imagining the two reunited.
On October 6, 2026, Curtis passed away surrounded by family following his battle with hepatocellular carcinoma. His legacy lives on through the relationships he built, the experiences he enjoyed, and the memories he leaves behind.
Curtis leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Sharron Hawkins; his brother, Lamar Clopton; his three children, Alicia Nicole, Kellan Pilot (Wadsworth), and Kenan Clopton; his four grandchildren, Tres, Nehemiah, Abigail, and Nina; and his nieces, Tamara, Aushae, and Mary. He is also remembered by his children-in-love, Sidyrah, Marshall W., and Zander, along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
