Lloyd Seaton Banks, Sr. (Whiting’s Funeral Home)

Lloyd Seaton Banks, Sr., departed this life on Sunday, September 6, 2026, in his home surrounded by loved ones. He was the youngest son born to the late Charles H. and Carrie J. Banks, in Magruder, York County, VA, on January 10, 1941.

Lloyd attended school in Williamsburg and was a graduate of Bruton Heights School in 1959. During his tenure at Bruton Heights he played football, basketball, baseball, and eventually earned a scholarship to Kittrell College (HBCU), to further his education.  He went on to play baseball in the Negro League as a member of the Williamsburg Buckeyes.  Lloyd grew up attending Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

He married his sweetheart, Harriett, on August 11, 1962, and they were blessed with two sons, Lloyd Seaton Banks, Jr. and Robert Nathan Banks. The family moved into their home in Hampton, VA and when the boys got older Lloyd became the basketball coach at St. Mary’s School and a football coach with the area Little League. Lloyd loved spending time with his sons and the neighborhood kids. Lloyd worked at the Newport News Shipbuilding as a mechanic, retiring after 40 years of service.

Lloyd loved his entire family fiercely, he was an easy-going, mild-mannered man who loved the Lord, he never met a stranger and made everyone feel welcomed. He was a die-hard fan of the Washington Redskins; he never called them by that other name. He was a supportive fan of the Hampton Crabbers, even after his sons graduated from high school, he continued to ride the bus with the team to games.

He was predeceased by his three siblings, Leon Banks, Lewis Banks, and Beatrice Bailey.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories, the love of his life and devoted spouse, Harriet; loving and caring two sons, Lloyd Jr (Karin) and Robert (Cheryl); seven loving grandchildren, Lloyd III, Lance, Raven, Bailey, Miles, Naiya, and Taylor; four great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Kermitt and Ret.
