Patricia Sue Bishop, affectionately known as Sue, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2026, in her hometown of Norfolk, Virginia, at the age of 73. Born on January 22, 1953, in Norfolk, Sue embodied a spirit of warmth, love, and resilience that touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Sue dedicated many years of her life working as a secretary for Edward Bishop Plumbing, where she was not only a meticulous and diligent worker but also a compassionate colleague and friend. Her attention to detail and unwavering commitment were admired by all who worked alongside her.
Outside of her professional life, Sue found immense joy in collecting clown figurines, each piece adding a touch of whimsy and color to her world. However, her greatest passion was spending quality time with her family, especially her beloved husband, Edward. Together, they shared 51 wonderful years of marriage, creating a lifetime of memories filled with laughter, love, and mutual respect.
A woman of faith, Sue was deeply involved in her local church community until her health began to decline. Her faith provided her strength and comfort throughout her life, and she carried this grace with her through every challenge she faced.
Sue leaves behind a loving family who will continue to cherish her legacy: her devoted husband, Edward J. Bishop; her daughter, Laura Denise Dedmon; her stepson, Scott William Bishop; and her brother, Glen Charles Helmendollar. She is preceded in death by her stepson, Edward Eugene Bishop.
In accordance with Sue’s wishes, no formal services will be held. Her family respects her desire for simplicity and privacy, knowing that the light she brought into their lives shines brightly in their hearts.
Sue was a beautiful spirit whose memory will linger with her family for years to come. Her life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion. Though she may no longer walk beside us, her essence lives on in the stories, laughter, and cherished memories she leaves behind.
In celebrating Sue’s life, we remember her not just as a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend, but as an inspiration to all who knew her—a gentle reminder of the beauty that exists in a life well-lived. Altmeyer Funeral Home-Southside Chapel is honored to be of assistance to Sue’s family at this time.
