Cathy Ritenour Gregor of Williamsburg, VA passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 25, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born to the late Cecelia Heitmanek and Charles Heitmanek on August 12, 1950 in Alexandria, VA.

She is survived by her loving husband, Bruce Gregor; her daughter, Meredith (Brian) Williams of Richmond, VA; her son, Andrew Ritenour of Sylva, NC; and her sister, Carol (Dave)Thomas of Wilmington, NC.

She leaves behind her grandson, Mason Williams of Kansas City, MO; her granddaughter, Sarah Williams of Richmond, VA; her granddaughter, MacKenzie Carnathan of Asheville, NC; her nephew, David (Stacey) Thomas Jr. of Lovettsville, VA; and her nephew, Steven (Linnette) Thomas of Winter Garden, FL. Cathy was preceded in death by her brother, Charles “Chuck” Heitmanek Jr.; her brother, Carl Heitmanek; and her daughter-in-law, Karen Ritenour.

Cathy started her career as a high school mathematics teacher in Chesterfield County, VA. After earning a Master’s of Science degree in Statistics from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1995, she worked as a mathematical statistician at the U.S. Census Bureau where she analyzed economic data. Her lifelong passion for mathematics continued in retirement, regularly solving mathematical problems as a hobby and part of her daily routine.

Known for her sharp mind and generous heart, Cathy approached life with determination and joy. She enjoyed playing dominoes and mahjong with her friends, competitive rounds of pickleball, peaceful hikes in nature, visiting National Parks, reading, and regularly attending exercise classes. Cathy was a talented photographer and had a remarkable eye for capturing nature’s beauty. She was very proud of her family, especially her grandchildren, celebrating their accomplishments with genuine interest and love.

Cathy inspired others through her strength, healthy lifestyle, and kind heart and leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
