Robert Brian Kite of Newport News, Virginia, 64, passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 21, 2026. He will be remembered for his fierce loyalty, his tireless work ethic, and the unwavering and profound love that he had for his family and friends.
Brian was born to Leland E. and Sarah R. Kite in Lynchburg, Virginia. He is survived by his daughter, Katelyn White, and her husband, Josh and their two children, Carter and Mabry of York County; his brother, Alan Kite of Crozet; his sister, Janice Dame and her husband, Dana of Charlottesville; and by his extended family of nieces, cousins, long-time friends and his border collie, Jake.
Growing up in Newport News, Brian graduated from Menchville High School in 1980. Just before his graduation, he began working for the Virginia Baptist Home (now known as the Chesapeake Retirement Community). He worked there for approximately five years. He then began a successful thirty-five-year career at what is now known as Dominion Energy. He was always proud of his profession as a lineman, a supervisor and of his accomplishments in the electric utility field. He always worked hard to give his very best to his job and his teammates, where he made many long-time friends. Brian enjoyed listening to music, hunting, working, boating and working on classic cars, especially his ‘33 Plymouth Coupe.
Brian was happiest when spending time with his daughter and her family, and he maintained a close relationship with his siblings throughout his life. He brought so much light and love to all of us, and we will miss him more than our words can convey.
Perhaps our feelings now are best expressed through the words of Brian’s favorite artist, Eric Clapton:
Beyond the door
There’s peace I’m sure
And I know there’ll be no more
Tears in Heaven
A Celebration of Brian’s Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2026, at Weymouth Funeral Home in Newport News. The family will receive friends following the service.
