With hearts full of gratitude and sorrow, we announce the passing of JoAnne Simmons Hite, who went home in true JoAnne fashion, at the age of 72, surrounded by her loving family, in the very early morning of May 10, 2026.
Living most of her life in Williamsburg, VA, JoAnne was a retired rural mail carrier and a devoted member of LifePointe Christian Church. Dancing to the beat of her own drum, living boldly in her faith, and never hesitating to speak her mind, she loved the Lord fiercely, loved America wholeheartedly, and was quite proud of the fact that she had no concept of time and would probably be late to her own funeral.
Anyone fortunate enough to know JoAnne knew just how unique, passionate, caring, and unforgettable she was. JoAnne never stopped wanting the very best for others and more than anything, wanted everyone to know God, love God, and have a relationship with Him. She made that message loud and clear to anyone she met. If JoAnne loved you, you knew it. If JoAnne prayed for you, you felt it. Though she may no longer walk beside us physically, her spirit, her voice, her love, and her unwavering faith will remain with all of us forever.
As difficult as this loss is for those left behind, we find peace knowing JoAnne was ready, in her own time, to go home and be reunited with her beloved husband, Rodney Hite, and her mother, Margaret Simmons. She is survived by her brothers, Michael and David Simmons; son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan and Aymee Hite; daughter, Christine Hite; former daughter-in-law and favorite son-in-law, Kathleen and Trevor Lawson; grandchildren: Elaina, Tucker, Lauren, and Lacey; grand dogs: Dunkin, Harley, Gina, Teddy (affectionately called Timmy) and Katie; and many other beloved family members and dear friends whose lives she touched forever.
God bless America, always. She was, without a doubt, a true patriot herself.
