Jennifer Michele Krohn passed away unexpectedly on February 7, 2026, at the age of 55. She was born on December 31, 1970, in Los Angeles, California – isn’t that where stars are born? Jen was a resident of Utica, New York, but her family, countless friends, and students were her “home!” She was a cherished presence in the lives of all who knew her.
Jennifer was the beloved daughter of Arthur C. Krohn and Susan Harrington Krohn of Williamsburg, VA, and a devoted sister to Doug Krohn (Tara) and Kathleen Mazzitti (Joe). She was a proud, doting, and loving aunt to Riley, Scott, Jackson, Ethan, and the family’s fur children – who brought her endless entertainment and laughter.
Jennifer graduated from Centennial High School in Maryland as part of “The Seven,” a group of lifelong friends who remained close throughout the years. As a student athlete on the volleyball team, she received an undergraduate degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Criminal Justice. Later, she earned a Master of Science in Kinesiology from James Madison University — achievements that reflected her drive, strength, and commitment.
For 25 years, Jen served as the certified athletic trainer and professor at Mohawk Valley Community College, where she became far more than a colleague — she became family. Her dedication, care, and fierce support for her students and athletes earned her the affectionate title of “Mama Jen,” a name that reflected the heart she poured into her work every single day. She helped heal them physically, emotionally, and mentally. It was her life’s purpose. She always showed up! Jennifer created several courses to further the Athletic Training and First Aid programs at MVCC. She earned the title of NJCAA Region 3 “Athletic Trainer of the Year” for consecutive years, 2023 – 2024 and 2024 – 2025. Recently, Jen received the Outstanding Educators Award by the Genesis Group. Jen was also recognized for administering CPR and ultimately saving a life on campus. She felt strongly about the importance of inclusion for all people as she served her community as an ally and Chair of the LGBT+ Committee, Title IX Committee, International Initiatives, Kiddie Campus Volunteer, Great American Irish Festival Volunteer, Empire State Games Volunteer, multiple Athletic Training Associations, and several others.
Jen’s life was filled with passion, humor, and adventure. Known as the “Queen of Snark,” she had a quick wit, a sharp sense of humor, and an unmatched ability to make people laugh. She was a trivia genius, a sponge of all facts and anything she ever read, heard or saw. She contributed commentary throughout award shows, The Super Bowl, and her “Adventures in International Relations” posts. Jen enjoyed coffee, rubber ducks, audiobooks, learning languages through her unprecedented Duolingo streaks, and cozy nights spent watching MASH and cooking shows for inspiration.
She found joy in so many things: Disney magic, Broadway musicals, crochet projects, and music — especially the band Enter the Haggis. Jennifer also treasured travel and friendship, holding special places in her heart for Texas, Hawaii, and Irish heritage. She never met anyone who did not become a thread in the fabric of her life! She had an uncanny way of connecting with everyone, staying in touch and making one feel seen.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring in Utica, NY where Jen gave so much of herself and where her memory will always remain. In lieu of flowers, the family will be collecting money through a GoFundMe to establish a memorial fund at MVCC in Jennifer’s honor.
Jen’s spirit was bold, loving, and unforgettable. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, loyalty, humor, and fierce love — the kind that stays with you forever.
Jennifer Michele Krohn will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
