Raymond “Ray” M. Hudson III (Whiting’s Funeral Home)

Raymond Hudson III, beloved son of Suzanne and Raymond Hudson Jr., was born on April 1, 1936, in Washington D.C. On January 8, 2025, he was called to his eternal home in Williamsburg, VA.

“Ray,” as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and an unwavering faith in God. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Hudson Jr and Suzanne Hudson, and his brother John.

Ray is survived by his loving wife Pat Hudson; children, Tracy Farrell (John), Bryan Davis (Beth), Brad Davis (Tara), and Mark Davis (Michelle); grandkids, Carleigh Weaver (Mike), Tanner Davis, Hailey Farrell (James), and Hannah Farrell; great-grandkids, Jasmine and Kaikoa.

After Ray graduated from Wilson H.S., he attended the University of Virginia to study Engineering. His journey continued in the United States Navy as a Seabee. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he operated his own business for many years as a Contractor. He later worked with FEMA and Habitat for Humanity.

Ray’s faith as a Presbyterian took him to Port Norfolk Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees.

His family will remember him for the countless stories of his life in St. Croix and his Great Danes. Those who knew Ray will remember him for his infectious smile, his faith, and his unwavering commitment to spreading joy and kindness to everyone he encountered. He had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.

Although Ray’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May his memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth his legacy of love and compassion in all that we do. His light will forever shine brightly in our hearts.

A Celebration of life will be announced at a future date.

In place of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the renovations of the Port Norfolk Church building fund or the Port Norfolk Food Bank. (353-355 Mt. Vernon Avenue, Portsmouth, VA 23707 (757) 573-1625)
