Woodrow Fletcher Woods, 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, in Newport News in the company of his family. Known to everyone as “Fletcher”, he was born in West Virginia and raised in Hampton, Virginia.
He graduated from Hampton High School and retired from Newport News Shipbuilding after more than 40 years of service. He was humorous and easy-going, befriending everyone he met. Fletcher had many talents and possessed a rare hands-on intelligence and an instinctive ability to build and solve, bringing countless projects to life through his craftsmanship.
Fletcher was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rebecca Smith Woods. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Woods Toppel (Scott) of Virginia Beach, VA; his son, Jeffrey Woods (Rosella) of Newport News; his sister, Joyce Vervais of Texas and four grandchildren, Ella and Simone Toppel and Syd and Ana Woods.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026 by Rev. Kathy Gray at Weymouth Funeral Home with a reception to follow.
