Vernelle Adkins Robinson, 63, of James City County

Vernelle Adkins Robinson, of James City County, was born on October 4, 1962, to the late Vernon W. Adkins, and Iris B. Adkins. She was preceded in death by her sister, Eugenia M. Adkins; her “Bonus Mom”, Rossie A. Adkins. Vernelle was baptized at the age of 12. She graduated Class of 1980, Charles City High School.

Vernelle drove for James City County Schools for 16 years, retiring as the Field Trip Manager of the School Bus Drivers. In the year 2002, she began her United States Postal Service Career, retiring in 2023 as Postmaster of Matthews, VA.

Vernelle enjoyed quilting, crocheting, motorcycle riding, and loving her Ford Mustangs. She loved her family deeply, fought hard, and never gave up.

Vernelle’s loving memories will continue through her devoted and loving husband, Lonnie Robinson, Sr.; devoted daughter, Iris Headen (Herbert); and devoted son, Lonnie Robinson, Jr. (Stephanie); grandchildren Jayden Headen and Baby Robinson. She is also survived by her sisters, Verna Brown (Michael), and Veronica Marrow (Bruce); mother-in law, Louise Harris; sister-in-law, Michelle Harris; brothers-in-law, Theodore Butler, Eyvine Harris (Sherry Ann), and Ronald Harris (Johnnie Renee); Aunts, Annie Bowman, and Carol Lewis (William); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Last but not least, her fur babies, Stella, Teeka, and Diesel.
