Donnie Hugh Holland, 87, died on Monday, September 22, 2025 at his home.
Born in Wayne County, NC, Donnie entered the National Guard as a Medic in the 30th Division in the 1950’s. He soon joined the United States Air Force where he served for 10 years with the Crash & Rescue team.
In 1968 he was hired by the Newport News Police Department as an officer. The military pulled him back to duty with the Army Reserves serving full time in the Military Police Unit. Donnie was a member of the Tidewater German American Society and the Retired Police Officers Association.
Donnie was preceded in death by his wife, Christa Marie Gertrude Holland: his grandson, Brandon Holland; his daughter, Jaqueline Carroll; his brother, Charles T. Holland and his sister, Frances Wooten.
He is survived by his 3 sons, Donnie G. Holland and his wife, Helen of Elm City, NC, Kenneth W. Holland and his companion, Laura Waltrip of Hampton, VA and David M. Holland and his wife, Candace of Newport News, VA; 8 grandchildren, Christopher, Andrew, Stephen, Christopher, Stacey, Caleb, Jacob and Noah; and 5 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025 at Weymouth Funeral Home. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens with Full Military Honors.
