David Drexler, 73, of Gloucester Point

David Drexler, 73, of Gloucester Point, Virginia, passed away on September 8, 2025, following a courageous battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Elsie Drexler; brother, Johnny Drexler; sister, Joyce Drexler; stepsons, Gage and Gary Rae; brother-in-law, Melvin Moody; and nephews, Von Moody and Markie Drexler.

He is survived by sons, Todd (Shanda) and Joseph (Megan); grandchildren, Logan, Lance, Luke, Kayla, Josie, Hannah and Myles; and former wives, Janice Drexler and Susan Morrisette; brothers, Joe Drexler Jr. (Linda) and Mark Drexler (Carolyn); sisters, Theresa Moody, Bea Hammerstrand (John) and Marie Kolendo (Wojciech); as well as many nieces and nephews and their families.

David grew up in West Point, VA and joined the Army immediately after graduating from high school. He served in the Army and as a medic in Vietnam. Upon returning from Vietnam, David worked in a number of different industries.

David loved the outdoors and spent many years working as a timber buyer. He also enjoyed metal detecting and spending time with Joseph outdoors looking for Civil War relics. After retiring from the forest industry, David enjoyed spending time with his beloved grandchildren. He enjoyed visiting his three oldest grandsons in Florida and spending time with his four youngest grandchildren in Gloucester, to whom he was known affectionately as “PePop”. His sons and grandchildren were the light of his life, and he spent hours sharing photos and updates on their many accomplishments.

David had a strong belief in God and while living in Emporia, VA he was very active at St. Richard Catholic Church where he served as Parish Council President. David also believed in the power of prayer and his prayers and those of his loved ones helped strengthen him through his journey with cancer.
