On Saturday, June 14, 2025, Dominique Justice Phillips departed this earthly life and entered eternal rest, where he was joyfully reunited with loved ones who passed before him.
DJ, as he was affectionately known, was born in 1999 in Newport News, Virginia to Rollin and Carol Phillips.
DJ is survived by his son, Rhin Justice Phillips (mother Dominique McElveen); parents, Rollin and Carol Phillips; his sister, Derrica Phillips; grandparents, Sherry Hall and Noel and Kathy Echols; great grandfather, Robert Haynes, Sr.; godparents, Zachary and Faith Bridges, and a host of friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, William Saunders, Sr. and great grandmother, Marie Haynes.
He attended Hampton Christian School and Newport News Public schools and was a 2017 graduate of Menchville High School. During his short life he explored several vocations, working in commercial fishing, retail grocery, and plumbing. He was a caring person and the ultimate big brother who enjoyed spending time with his son, fishing, and auto repairs.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Warwick United Church of Christ, 10 Matoaka Lane, Newport News VA. Guests are invited to wear something green during the service to remember DJ’s favorite color. A light repast will be provided after the service.
The family wishes to thank everyone who has supported them during this difficult time. Every token of love was appreciated. Many have asked how they can help. Financial contributions can be made toward the care and raising of DJ’s son, Rhin.
