Lenora Vernell Dabney, 91, of King and Queen

Lenora Vernell Dabney (Vincent Funeral Home)

Lenora Vernell Dabney, the last born of six children to the late Isaac and Alice King, Sr., departed this earthly life on July 21, 2025.

At an early age, Lenora accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined Jerusalem Baptist Church, where she remained a member until her death. Lenora graduated from Central High School in King and Queen County, Virgina. On September 10, 1955, she was united in holy matrimony with the love of her life, the late Roy Samuel Dabney. Their marriage was a beautiful example of love and commitment that lasted 56 wonderful years and from this union one child was born, Deborah.

After joining the ranks of Civilian Federal Service with the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, Lenora served for more than 30 years on behalf of the United States of America. After retiring in 1989, she relocated with her husband of 56 years to Palm Coast, Florida where they enjoyed many years together. Following Roy’s passing, Lenora returned home to King and Queen County where she reconnected with her home church community.

Lenora is lovingly remembered by her devoted daughter, Deborah Brooks (Anthony), Fredericksburg, Virginia; her beloved sister, Clara Williams (Spencer), Newtown, Virginia; brother-in-law Wallace Dabney, Memphis, TN; sister-in-law Katherine King, Sacramento, California; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Lenora is now reunited in heaven with her loving and faithful partner, Roy; parents Isaac and Alice King; sister Mary King Bullock and brothers Isaac King, Jr., George Davis King, and William King.

A funeral service will be held 12 Noon, Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 21180 Bagby Rd, Bowling Green, VA 22427. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.
