Barbea Jane “Barb” McCrary, born June 18, 1955, in Bethesda, Maryland, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025, at the age of 70 in her Norfolk, Virginia home.

Barb spent her life as a dedicated and diligent Certified Public Accountant, providing financial and payroll expertise to various companies. Her professional diligence was matched by her personal warmth and generosity. Known as a social-introvert, Barb had a good sense of humor that endeared her to all who knew her. As a Navy wife, she eventually settled in Norfolk, Virginia, where she lovingly raised her two children.

Outside of her work, Barb found joy in crocheting and could often be found at home immersed in a good book or captivated by her favorite crime shows, “CSI” and “Law & Order.” Known for her generous nature, whenever Barb cooked, she would prepare enough to feed an army, ensuring no one ever went hungry.

Raised Methodist, she embraced the Presbyterian faith upon marriage. While not affiliated with any local churches, she worshiped God in her own way, underscoring her independent spirit and personal beliefs.

Barb is preceded in death by her father, John Jack Baliff, and her former husband. She leaves behind her beloved daughter, Meg Newsom, and her husband Gary; her son, Patrick McCrary; her siblings, Julie, Jerry, and Judy; and five cherished grandchildren: Kimber, Lorelai, Ayden, Riley, and Elena. Additionally, she is survived by one great-grandchild and a host of family friends who will forever treasure her memory.

Though no formal ceremonies are scheduled at this time, the family will hold a private gathering to share stories and memories of Barb’s rich and fulfilling life.

In remembering Barb, we celebrate a woman whose life was marked by love, laughter, and an unyielding commitment to those she held dear. Her legacy will continue to live on through her family and the many lives she touched.
