Barbara Diane Reed, 80, of Newport News, Virginia passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family and the memories of a life well-lived.
Diane was born in Detroit, MI and is the daughter of Blanche Blair of Lenora, WV and French Shortridge of Grundy, Virginia, a legacy of strength and resilience. She is the granddaughter of Martha Deskins and James A. Blair, a testament to the power of family and heritage.
She was a proud graduate of Hampton High School, class of ‘62, where she laid the foundation for a lifetime of learning and growth. Diane’s first job was working at Rich’s Grocery store with her Dad, a cherished experience that ignited her passion for community and service.
She was a dedicated Clerk at Leggett in Hampton, Virginia and also worked as a Secretary for the Hampton City Attorney’s Office, where she made a lasting impact through her tireless work ethic and unwavering commitment. Diane led Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Brownies, Sunday and Bible school at Second Presbyterian Church, inspiring countless young minds and hearts with her boundless energy and enthusiasm.
She was previously married to Lewis Warren Reed, Sr, and blessed with 2 children, Lewis Warren Reed, Jr (Chris) and Laura Reed Hamrick, as well as 4 grandchildren, Rachael, Janet, Lew, and Catie, and several great-grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on July 7, 2025 at Peninsula Memorial Park by Rev. Russ Hopkins, a celebration of her life and spirit.
