Robert “Bobby” Tugwell, Sr., 80, passed away on June 18, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. A devoted husband, a proud father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and loyal friend, Bobby’s life was one filled with faith, hard work, and unwavering love for those around him.

Born in 1944, Bobby was a graduate of Hampton High School and proudly served his country in both the United States Navy and the United States Army. After his military service, he continued his commitment to his community through various roles—working in the family business, Tugwell Construction, serving in the U.S. Postal Service, lending his skills as a maintenance specialist at Busch Gardens, and most recently working at the Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport.

Bobby was a follower of Jesus Christ. He was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord deeply and lived his life grounded in faith. He also deeply loved his church family at North Hampton Christian Church and found great joy and fellowship among them. His kindness, humility, and strength were reflections of his walk with God, and he touched many lives through both his actions and his words.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Franklin and Lucy Mae Tugwell; his four brothers, Ricky, David, Frank, and Billy and his four sisters, Joy, Carol, Lois, and Glenda. He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Brenda Tugwell; his five children: Robert “Rob” Tugwell, Jr. (Sherry), Lori Ann Bergeron (Rob), Angel Winkler (Trey), Kimberly Tugwell (Chris), and Nichalous “Nick” Tugwell (Brandy); his baby brother, James D. Tugwell, along with a gaggle of nieces and nephews. He was the proud grandfather of 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride.

Bobby was known for his strong work ethic, warm heart, and quiet strength. He was an avid bowler and loved to fish. But his greatest happiness always came from spending time with his family.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and generosity. His impact on his family and community will be remembered and cherished always.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 – 12:00 PM on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at North Hampton Christian Church, 1409 Todds Lane, Hampton, VA 23666. A Celebration of Bobby’s life will be held from 12:00 – 1:00 PM at the church with a lunch reception following the service.
