Douglas Brown McMurry, of Charles City, VA went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, May 27th, 2025.
He was born on November 19, 1943, to Elmer and Mildred McMurry in Madison, WI.
He was a faithful pastor and minister for over 50 years. In addition, Doug had a passion for revival and was a fervent prayer warrior to that end. He wrote nine books, including his most recent works, Glory Through Time (two volumes) which trace the history of revival, as well as a second edition of The Forgotten Awakening, which is a representation of his life’s work and characterizes his love for First Nations people.
He recently just created a new website with his books and his story.
Doug had a variety of hobbies including gardening, pottery, reading, acrostic puzzles, and playing games with his family. He loved being in the great outdoors and appreciated the beauty of God’s creation. His investment in his family will forever be remembered.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Charlotte (Carla) McMurry; his son, Philip McMurry; his daughters, Marna McMurry Ludlow, Lisa Bowen, and Elizabeth Leath; his nine grandchildren, Katherine, Emily, Jackson, Alexa, Isaiah, Hannah, Samuel, Eden, and Naomi; and his great-grandchild, Rosemary. He will be greatly missed by all his friends and family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Samaria Baptist Church, 8130 Lott Cary Rd, Providence Forge, VA.
