Here are two different versions of the obituary, written in two different tones. Please do with them what you see fit.
Charlie Luther Chambers, age 72, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Born on April 12, 1953, in Columbus, Georgia, Charlie lived a life marked by service, dedication, and authenticity.
Charlie proudly served in the United States Navy for 22 years, exhibiting an unparalleled work ethic throughout his career. His time in the Navy was defined by discipline and resilience, leading to a distinguished retirement. Afterward, he continued to contribute to his community through his work at the Drydock Club, the Navy Exchange, and as a truck driver for MDV. Even in challenging times, Charlie’s commitment to his work remained steadfast, demonstrating a level of perseverance admired by all who knew him.
An enthusiast of the outdoors, Charlie loved to fish, finding peace and joy by the water. He was also passionate about crafting model cars and airplanes, a hobby that allowed him to combine his appreciation for detail with his creative spirit. A talented artist, his drawings captured moments of tranquility and inspiration.
Charlie was a man of strong convictions and faith, evident in his membership with Arabia Temple #12 and Alpha, Oceania Prince Hall Masonic #69 and Omega Consistory #9. Although he did not have a formal church home, his belief in God was deeply rooted and unwavering.
A dedicated fan of the San Francisco 49ers, Charlie was truly “Faithful to the Bay.” His admiration for the team was matched only by his love for the Chicago Bulls, experiences he enjoyed sharing with those close to him.
Charlie is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Queen Esther Grier, and his sister, Carolyn Richardson. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Carla, and her husband Cam, his son, Joshua, his sisters, Lana and Barbara, his brother Andrew, and a host of cherished family members and friends. Charlie was known for his dry wit and laid-back personality, traits that made him an excellent dad and mentor. His realness, often blunt yet sincere, left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. His love for Seagram’s or Hennessey—whether neat, with water, or cranberry juice—was well-known among those lucky enough to share a drink with him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 11:00 am at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5033 Rouse Drive in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
