William “Papa” Hogge, age 82 of Shacklefords

William “Papa” Hogge, age 82 of Shacklefords, VA, passed away after a long illness the morning of March 16th, 2025, in his own home, as he had wished, under the loving care of his Family. He was preceded in Death by his Loving Wife of 58 years Gloria Butler Hogge.

William was the youngest son of the Late John W. and Rosa Beatrice Hogge where he and his older brother grew up tinkering with cars in their Fathers lot.

There wasn’t anything that William couldn’t do, craft, create or fix. He worked at Boyer Motor Co., Whitmore Chevrolet, Perry Oil Co., and lastly with Rennies Oil Co. hauling gas. He hauled gas for 36 ½ years, leaving in the early morning hours until the wee hours of the night. He was always fond of detailing how many miles he had driven and how many gallons of gas he had delivered.

William was also a very accomplished Welder, along with being a Furnace repairman. He loved NASCAR Racing where he would cheer for the Black #3 car of Earnhardt. He also loved playing “Set back” with all his buddies at Butch Wilson’s garage. Among those hobbies, he also loved Fishing, Hunting, Trapping, & Crabbing or just cooking a pig on his handmade cooker while enjoying a Chilly-Pop.

William was also a long-time member of Poroporone Baptist Church. After retirement, he and Meme loved to travel and made it to almost all of the 50 states, but he always stated that Hawaii was his favorite with its Tropical Beauty.

He is survived by his Daughter Maria Hogge Inge(Larry) and his Son Thomas Linwood Hogge; Four Grandchildren Jennifer Nicole Inge(Bradley), Jonathan Tyler Inge(Taylor), Elana Cailyn Hogge & Brianna Rose Hogge. Also, older brother John Robert Hogge(Ann) and sister Dorothy Hogge Milby, along with many nieces and nephews.

The Family invites everyone to a Celebration of Life Service on March 27th, 2025 at Poroporone Baptist Church starting promptly at 5:30pm, located at 30071 The Trail, Shacklefords, VA 23156. The Service will conclude with visitation and a meal in the Fellowship hall for all.

In Lieu of Flowers, donations can be made to Poroporone Baptist Church “Camp Piankatank” fund which helps send a Child to a Christian Summer Camp and Retreat Center.
