With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Marie Walker Meekins, who left us peacefully on March 16, 2025.
She was born on January 10, 1933, to the late Martha and Daniel Walker in Toano, Va.
She was also preceded by death by two sisters, Rudell Walker and Mary Walker; three brothers, Daniel Walker Jr., Wesley Walker, and Robert “Popcorn” Walker; son-in-law Webster “Mark” Lightfoot; and brother-in-law William Hawkins Sr.
Marie was educated in the Williamsburg-James City County Public School.
She was a devoted wife mother, grandmother, and sister. She loved to watch her favorite shows: The Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune. She also loved to cook and bake raisin cakes for her family and friends. She was a kind-hearted lady who never complained about what she was going through. She will be missed by all who loved her.
She lives to cherish her memories, her husband Hampton Meekins Sr.; six children, Theresa Lightfoot, Shirley Meekins, Joanne Christian (Christopher), Elaine Christian (Michael), Hampton Meekins (Wanda), and Donald Meekins; sister Elizabeth “Sue” Hawkins; twelve grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A service to celebrate Marie’s life will be held at noon on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. Interment to follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Mrs. Meekins may be viewed on Tuesday beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the hour of her service in the funeral home.
