On February 17, 2025, Horace “Lester” Oliver Jr., 72, “Candy’s Handsome Marlborough Man” passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side.
Lester, a devoted field supervisor for a painting and wallpaper company, loved his home on the river where he enjoyed fishing, looking at the water, reading the daily Times Dispatch from front to back, hanging out with friends and family, and spending time watching Nascar and Judge Judy.
Lester is preceded in death by his father, Horace Lester Oliver Sr, and his mother, Shirley Mae Hood (formerly Wade).
He is survived by his wife of forty years, Roberta “Candy” Oliver; his sister, Denise Bigger; his son, William Oliver; his wife’s children, who he loved and who loved him, Robert McRae and Melissa McRae; his daughter-in-law, Ann McRae; his 3 grandchildren Collin, Cameron, and Caroline; his niece Rhonda Armstrong; and numerous great nieces, nephews, cousins; and many devoted friends, who loved him dearly.
Per Lester’s request, there will only be a private celebration of life in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center.
