Iris McMain Ferguson, 75, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 28, 2025. Iris was a native of Virginia. She served in the United States Marines for 4 years and retired as a civil servant from NOSTRA on the Naval Weapons Station.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Darryl McMain and Garry Ferguson, parents Lillian and Murdock Mason and Paul K. Aycock and brother David Mason. She is survived by her daughter Ruth Anne Reed (Stacy) of Yorktown and stepsons, Michael Ferguson (Opal), Stephen Ferguson (Teana) and Ryan Ferguson, grandchildren Seth and Mason Reed, Kristy Morrison, Taylor Pate and Cody Ferguson.
Additionally, she is survived by her sisters Lillie Dvorak (Phil), Joyce Gettier and brother Simon Aycock, sisters- in-law June Mason and Cem Patrick (Larry) and brothers-in-law Michael McMain (Linda) and Pat McMain (Deborah) along with many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family, and friends she loved so dearly.
Iris lived a life filled with love and creativity and it was apparent through her cooking, baking, sewing, crafts and gardening. With each stitch sewn, every craft completed, and every garden tended, Iris brought beauty and warmth into our lives. She enjoyed cooking for all and looked forward to her annual baking cookies with her grandchildren. After retirement, her days were spent bowling, bunco and lunching with friends.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025 starting at 2:00pm at Amory Funeral Home in Yorktown followed by the funeral service starting at 3:00pm. Interment will be held at a later date in Hampton Memorial Gardens, Hampton, Va.
In lieu of flowers, Iris would want you to donate to a charity that is special to you or plant something in your garden to remember her by.
