Walter Stokes Jr., 77, of Williamsburg

Walter “Snooks” Stokes, Jr. went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. He was born on January 6, 1948, in Halifax, Virginia, to the late Walter Stokes, Sr. and Willamae Thompson Stokes.

He is also preceded in death by his brother Rudolph “Rudy” Stokes, and daughter WayLynn Warrington.

Walter attended T. C. Walker School while in Gloucester, VA. in the mid-1960s. Upon leaving Gloucester in the mid-1970s, Walter gave his life to the Lord and made Him a permanent fixture in his life until his death. In 1980, Walter finished his education graduating from high school in the state of Delaware. He continued his education over many years studying in different fields of work and excelling in them all. In the late 1990s and early 2000, Walter returned to Virginia and worked as a carpenter building furniture for college dorms (VA Tech University, VA Commonwealth University, and the College of William & Mary).

Because of his love for God, Walter became humble and gentle over the years. He knew of God’s love, grace, and mercy.

He leaves to cherish his sons, Wayne Warrington of Wilmington, Delaware and Walter Stokes, III of Fort Pierce, Florida; grandson Tyron Warrington of Wilmington, Delaware; sisters, Burnetta Lee-Mason of Gloucester, Virginia and Maria Lee-Driver of Atlanta, Georgia; brother Everette Miller of Gloucester, Virginia; special aunt who is a blessed 100 years of age, Mary Tribble Burkesdale of Wilmington Delaware; cousins, Elizabeth Cornish and Rebecca DeShields, both of Wilmington, Delaware; special friends, James Hooper of Milford, Delaware and Martin and Pastor Edna Smith of Frankford, Delaware; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. Mr. Stokes may be viewed in the funeral home beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
