Steven Michael Yackulak Jr (73) of New Kent County passed away on December 28, 2024. After beating cancer for five years, that fight finally wore him down and he passed peacefully while at home surrounded by his family.
Steve was born in Greensburg, PA, to the late Steven (Sr) and Susanna (Zavada) Yackulak.
Steve was the first in his family to receive a college degree, and after obtaining his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, he started his career at Westinghouse (Plant Apparatus Division) developing projects for the nuclear Navy. Later, he continued his career at Bettis Power Atomic Laboratory, before moving to Goose Creek, SC to instruct at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command (NNPTC).
Throughout his life, he loved to travel which took him on family adventures through all 50 states. Later in life, he and his wife got to enjoy over a dozen international trips including Japan and Egypt. For many years, he annually traveled to Disney World to create lifelong memories with family. And he loved to build and display his Legos, which grew to over 150 sets.
Steve is survived by his wife of 55 years Marianne (Kasacjak); his daughter Sheila Smith and husband Tom of Oak Ridge, NC; his son Sean Yackulak and wife Kim of Perry Hall, MD; his grandchildren Jeremiah Smith, Kierstyn (Kade) Henderson, Dakota Smith, Matthew Yackulak, Brandon Yackulak, Krystal Yackulak, and Kara Yackulak; and his sister Anna (Kim) Lloyd.
