Born in Burgaw, North Carolina, Ray moved to Newport News and went to work for Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company for about 12 years. He subsequently left and started working for Suitt Construction, a contractor at Allied Chemical in Hopewell, Virginia. He worked there until he retired.
Ray will be fondly remembered by all his friends on his job site, his neighbors and friends near home.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Beverly; his daughters, Jennifer B. Hon (Mun-Wai), Kelly B. Miller (Chris); his sister, Betty Rooks; his grandchildren, Alissa Damato, Henry Miller and Elizabeth Miller; his beloved nephews, Jay Allen and Bryan Allen as well as Debra F. Rindfleisch and Cynthia E. Allen.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Weymouth Funeral Home with William (Bill) Ouzts of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.
