Mary L. Sawyer, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2024, in Virginia Beach, VA, at the age of 81. Born on August 25, 1943, in Norfolk, Virginia, Mary lived a life filled with love, compassion, and dedication to her family and passions.

Throughout her life, Mary found joy in the simple pleasures. As a homemaker, she created a warm and welcoming environment for her loved ones, always ensuring that her home was a place of comfort and love. Her garden was a testament to her nurturing spirit, where she cultivated not only beautiful flowers but also lasting memories with those she cherished.

Mary worked as an order taker for QVC before retiring, where she was known for her kindness and diligence. Her work ethic and attention to detail were admired by colleagues and customers alike.

Preceded in death by her beloved parents, Lillian and Amos Bateman, and her dear son, Kelly Sawyer, Jr., Mary’s legacy lives on through her surviving family: her devoted husband of 63 years, Kelly R. Sawyer, Sr.; her son, Mark E. Sawyer (Jennifer) her adored granddaughter, Lindsey; her loving sister, Diane McCord (Harry); and her caring brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Wayne Sawyer, Linda Dunbar (Mitchell), Glenn Sawyer, and Timothy Sawyer (Joanne). She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and countless friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.

Mary’s life was a testament to the power of love and family. Her gentle spirit and unwavering support touched all who knew her. Though she is no longer with us, her memory will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor her remarkable journey and the indelible impact she made on their lives.

In this time of sorrow, may we find comfort in the love she shared and the beautiful garden of memories she planted in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Mercy Chefs or Operation Blessing in her memory.
