Lois Myrtle Oglesby, 95, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on October 9, 2024.
She was born in Miller, In., to Myrtle Olson Regel and Walter Gustav Regel and spent her early adulthood in the central United States and Cuba before moving with her family to Newport News, VA, where she has resided for the past 57 years.
Lois was predeceased by her husband, Robert Sterrett Oglesby, and her sister, Carol Wallace.
She is survived by her brother-in-law, Glenn Wallace; her niece, Cathi Huerta; her two children, Bruce and Lynne Oglesby; her daughter-in-law, Cecilia Oglesby, and her three grandchildren, Bella Finkel-Holman and Sophia and Robert Oglesby.
Lois received her Bachelors’ degree from Carroll College in Waukesha, WI, and graduated with a Masters’ in Spanish from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She spent two happy years as a secretary at the Presbyterian mission work and school La Progresiva in Cárdenas, Cuba. Lois served as a research associate at the Mariners’ Museum for 20 years. She was a devoted member of Hilton Presbyterian Church, and in her later years she enjoyed classes at the Lifelong Learning Center.
Lois loved to learn, to sing, and to be active. She adored her friends. Her family is grateful for all those who helped her do the things she loved as she grew advanced in years.
