It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William “Billy” Scott Walters, who departed this world on September 22, 2024, at the age of 57. Born on October 7, 1966, in Wyandotte County, Kansas City, KS, Billy lived a life full of joy, laughter, and love that left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.
Billy was a man of great spirit and dedication, admired by many for his work as a machinist supervisor at MHI, where he contributed over 20 years of tireless commitment. His colleagues and friends fondly recall him arriving bright and early on his beautiful yellow Harley-Davidson, embodying the essence of what he called “Wind Therapy.” To Billy, being on two wheels was not just a mode of transport; it was a way of life that brought freedom and peace.
Known for his exceptional hospitality, Billy was the heart and soul of every gathering. He hosted legendary cookouts, where he showcased his skills as a grill master, always ensuring everyone felt welcome and cherished. The sound of laughter and the spirit of camaraderie filled the air at his events, punctuated only by spirited games of cornhole—where beating him was a rare feat!
Preceded in death by his beloved parents, Thomas E.A. Walters and Shirley A. Reeves, Billy leaves behind a legacy of love through his family. He is survived by his devoted siblings, Michael W. Walters, Robin A. Walters, and Terry J. Walters. As a loving father, Billy’s memory will forever be cherished by his children Dustin Wheeler, Mari Linkous, and Skiilynn Wheeler, and his two stepchildren, Lawrence Carmack and Emily Carmack. His wonderful grandchildren also carry forward the warmth and joy he spread throughout his life.
The Walters family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the two anonymous donors and everyone who contributed toward celebrating Billy’s remarkable life. Details on the memorial service will be provided shortly, and we invite all who knew and loved Billy to join us in honoring his memory.
In the end, Billy’s life was a testament to living fully, loving generously, and riding free. Though he may have taken his final ride, his spirit continues to inspire us to seek joy and share kindness every day.
