On Monday, July 29, 2024, at 11:48 a.m., GOD made a decision to end our love one’s suffering from complications of cancer and ALS (LOU GEHRING DISEASE). Within an hour of having a Bible study with his mother, Claude Wayne DeBerry, affectionately known as “Wayne”, transition peacefully with a smile on his face at home.

Wayne was born July 19, 1954, in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Due to his father’s military career, Wayne had the opportunity to live in several places—-Florida, Georgia, Germany and Virginia.

He graduated from Denbigh High School and Thomas Nelson Community College, worked for Newport News Shipbuilding as a machinist and a union representative for United Steelworkers Union Local 8888, had a love for jazz and tennis—he was an avid tennis player with the Briarfield Park Tennis Center.

Wayne was predeceased by his father, Claude DeBerry, Jr. and his sister, Marva Ann Kemper.

Wayne leave to cherish his memories—-wife, Carolyne; son, Ki’Shon; mother, Leola; sister, LaWanda; brothers, Keith (Angela) and Tony; grandsons, KeShawn and K’Orie; many other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, between 5 to 7 p.m., Ivy Baptist Church, 50 Maple Avenue, Newport News, Virginia 23607.
