Glenn Marchetti Bowman Sr, of Providence Forge, Va., was born May 17, 1942, to the late James H. Bowman and Marcell C. Bowman.
He was proceeded in death by his sisters Iris B. Adkins and Pamela E. Otey. Glenn gave his life to Christ late in life and was baptized at Little Elam Baptist Church in Charles City County.
Glenn enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding and watching NASCAR racing and boxing. He was a member of the Tator Run Hunt club for many years. He was a man that loved working with his hands. Glenn was a mechanic by trade, working on anything with a motor, restoring tractors and cars was his passion. Glenn retired from Nabisco after working as a mechanic for more than 30 years. Glenn was known by many names by those who loved him: “Shag”, “Ford”, his wife lovingly called him, “Boy” or “my Big Baby”, to the grandchildren he was “Pop” and to the great-grandchildren he was “Popi”. His daughter affectionately called him “Belly”.
Glenn is survived by her wife of 62 years, Annie WIlma Bell, with whom they were united in holy matrimony on February 11, 1962; his two children, devoted son, Glenn M. Bowman, Jr (Gayle) and devoted daughter, Lorna Braxton (Kevin, Sr.); six grandchildren, Satina Jones, Maurice Washington, Jr (Benesha), Glenn Bowman III (Whitney) Lornice Mckeithen (Jamal, Sr), Kevin Braxton, Jr, Tisha Braxton (Adam); sixteen great-grandchildren; a devoted God-daughter Erica Bowman; sister, Carol Lewis (William) and devoted brother, Monte Bowman (Irene). He is also survived by his mother in-law, Eva I. Bell; four devoted sisters in-law, Lash Bell, Eva Pugh (Kevin), Etta Charity (Roscoe, Sr) Gail Thompson (Hugo); brothers in-law, Rufus Bell, Jr, Dwight Greene, Sr.; devoted life-long friends, Stanley Otey, and Clyde Allen; devoted cousin-Deborah (Deb)Adkins Allen, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Little Elam Baptist Church, 8840 Church Ln, Charles City, VA 23030.
