Jean Harriet Cambrey (Weymouth Funeral Home & Crematory)

Jean Harriet Cambrey, 97, passed away on July 9, 2024.

She was born in Washington, D.C. Jean worked for the Bureau of Standards which became the Department of the Army. Her first job was building proximity fuses for guided missiles. She worked for the Department of the Army Ordnance for 45 years.

In 1990, she moved to Meredith Woods in Newport News where she enjoyed golf with the Deer Run 9-Hole Golfers, the Riverside Wellness Center, the Woman’s Club of Newport News, and her Red Hat Sisters. In 2004, she moved to Port Warwick where she enjoyed walking with her dogs, Jake, Susie, and, most recently, Honey Bun. Upon retirement, she enjoyed traveling across Europe with her husband of 66 years, Bill Cambrey.

She is survived by three daughters: Bobbie and husband, Dr. Donald Cooke of Newport News, Debbie Esbach of Richmond, Susie and husband, Win Redmond of South Carolina; seven grandchildren, Kristen Bell (Tony) of Richmond, Brian Cooke (Nicole) of Newport News, Tyler Harris (Byron) of Richmond, Michael Esbach (Cristina) of San Francisco, Drew Redmond of Florida, Matt Redmond (Ally) of Massachusetts, Bailey Redmond of South Carolina and seven great-grandchildren, Cambrie Cooke, Sarah Bell, Henry and Quinn Harris, and Joseph, Mathew and Patrick Redmond.

Funeral Services will be conducted at noon on Monday, July 15, 2024 at Weymouth Funeral Home. A reception and visitation will follow. A private burial will be held at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Horton Wreath Society.
