Lord once again you’ve come to do Thy will,
Once again, we struggle to keep our hearts still.

As we grieve for our mother, sister, and friend.

On Thursday, June 6, 2024, Carrie Marie Jones Taylor was called home to be with her Lord and Savior in Old Dominion Rehabilitation and Nursing, Newport News, VA. Her life began on December 4, 1932, to the late Charlie S. and Ruth A. Jones.

At an early age, she joined Shiloh Baptist Church in Croaker. She later joined Zion Baptist Church, Lightfoot, VA, where she faithfully served on the Zion Baptist Usher Board, L.F. Williams Gospel Choir, Zion Baptist Gospel Choir, and held the position of Zion Baptist Church Financial Secretary. She remained a faithful member until her health began to fail.

She was educated in the York County Public School System. On April 6, 1951, she joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Oliver Lee Taylor. This union was blessed with seven children.

Marie, affectionately known as “Ree”, was employed as a Pottery Handler and Decorator with the Williamsburg Pottery for forty-plus years.

Ree enjoyed working on Word Puzzles and playing Solitaire. She also enjoyed watching Andy Griffith, Judge Mablean, westerns, and soap operas.

Ree is predeceased by her sons, Fletcher Taylor, Willis “Buck” Taylor, and David Taylor Sr.; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Jones, Catherine Brown, Pauline Smith, and Virginia Haltiwanger; brothers, Charles Jones and Fred Jones Sr.

Her loving and precious memories will forever be treasured by her daughter Carolyn Taylor Wynne; sons, Charles “Chub” Taylor (Yvette), Bruce “Henry” Taylor (Barbara), and Milton “Wardell” Taylor (Sonia); sisters, Rosa Jamerson and Viola Wise (Ulysses); brother Horace Jones; foster daughter, Myrtle Melvin; grandchildren, Izaak “Dek” Taylor, Gary Taylor, Morgan Wynne Ferguson, Durrell Taylor, David Taylor Jr., Alex Taylor, and Omar Taylor; nine great-grandchildren; special friends, Cora Cowles and Thelma Jackson; and a host of caring nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at Noon on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Zion Baptist Church. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Taylor may be viewed in the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
