Lina Sofia D’Antonio, 98, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024 at her home.
She was born in the beautiful mountain town of Villalago, Italy to Raffaele and Elvira Buccini. She was a devoted wife, mother and friend.
Remo, her husband of 69 years, returned to Italy in 1954 and they married in Villalago. She courageously left her family and country to come to America, where she did not know the language, and knew few people. She made a loving home for her family and enjoyed being with the many friends she made along the way. She took on the role of primary caregiver on several occasions, even crossing the ocean to take care of her mother for 6 months.
Although she only had 5 years of formal education, she was smart, and could solve complex math problems in her head. She had an amazing memory until almost the very end, and was the go-to person for dates of importance.
She was an original member of St. Jerome Catholic Church and a longtime member of the Peninsula Italian American Lodge. She was fun loving and friendly. She and Remo were the first ones on the dance floor and the last ones to leave. Her favorite: “The Chicken Dance.”
Lina was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brother, Romanino Buccini; and sister, Maria Grossi. She is survived by her daughter, Anna (Bob Mason); grandchildren, Holly (Jamie) Whitley and Bobby (Blair) Mason; 5 great-grandchildren; as well as extended family and friends.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at St. Jerome Catholic Church by Rev. John Grace with burial to follow at Peninsula Memorial Park. A reception will take place at the Knights of Columbus after services.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
