Tony Eugene Poe, Jr., 45, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Riverside Regional Medical Center.
Born in Columbus, GA, he graduated from Jordan Vocational High School. Following graduation, Tony joined the U.S. Navy where he served for 5 years. In 2004 he joined the Newport News Police Department. He served in many capacities including the Canine Unit, Marine Patrol, Hostage Negotiator, the TOU Team, Armored Vehicle Driver, Department Armorer, Training Division and was a Master Police Officer. His dedication to the NNPD will be truly missed.
Tony was a member of the FOP and served as Vice President and was a member of the Warwick Masonic Lodge No. 336. He enjoyed watching European Soccer games and the Atlanta Braves.
Tony was preceded in death by his mother, Regina Lee O’Dell. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Kimberly J. Poe; his beloved children, Tyler Eugene Poe and Erin B. Poe all of Newport News; his father, Tony E. Poe, Sr. and his stepmother, Deborah Poe of Columbus, GA; his stepfather, James O’Dell of Waverly Hall, GA; his brother, John Poe of Columbus, GA; and step-siblings, Shana Robinson of Mauk, GA, Heather Kirkland of Hamilton. GA and Jonathan Phillips of Butler, GA.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2024 at First Baptist Church, Newport News with full NNPD Honors.
