Donald “Rubberduck” R. Christian, 81, of Charles City, VA, departed this life suddenly on Saturday, February 3, 2024. Rubberduck as he was affectionately called was born on November 14, 1942.

He was preceded in death by his son, Atlas Christian, mother, Dorothy “Chick” Bradby, and brother Hewlett (Mingo) M. Bradby, Jr.

Donald accepted Christ at an early age at the Union Baptist Church in Charles City, VA. Rubberduck attended Ruthville High School in Charles City County. He later married the love of his life, Shirley Greene. Rubberduck was currently employed for Luck Stone Corporation. The Rubberduck had no intention of retiring. If you said something to Rubberduck about retiring, he would get so upset. He always would say, “I enjoy getting up and going to work every morning, I like seeing the people at work, we joke and have fun.”

If you ever visited Golden Skillet on the weekend, you may have encountered the Rubberduck, that was his favorite spot. During the week, he would often be at his daughter’s home and enjoying his family. Rubberduck loved family gatherings and having fun hanging out with his friends. He was a kind, generous and fun-loving person.

Donald leaves to cherish his memory, a loving wife, Shirley Greene Christian, daughters, Cheryl Christian and Felecia Christian, son, Donnell Brown, grandsons, Marquest Christian and Stephon Simpson, granddaughters, Cierra Davis, Linda Davis and great-granddaughters, Zaniya Davis, Atarah Epps, Devon Hockaday, Selena Hockaday and Selrenith Hockaday, daughter-in-law, Diane Christian, brother, Lucarl Bradby (Priscilla), sisters, Angela M. Bradby, and Sylvia Bradby Christian (James), devoted aunt, Edwina Jones. Devoted friends and relatives, Herald (Bootsie) Christian, Ralph Christian, William (Bubba) Christian, Norman Lee (T-Bone) Gentry, Ernest (Peter) Hayes, Benjamín (Benny Boy) Williams, and a host of other relatives, friends, and his feline companions.

A Celebration of Life will be held at noon, Friday, February 9, 2024, at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, VA, with a viewing held one hour prior to the service. The Rubber duck will be laid to rest at Union Baptist Church Cemetery, 5801 Old Union Road, Charles City, VA.
