On August 18 of 1944, Linda B. Jones graced this world with her divine presence.
She was born to the late Earlie Lynch and Gensie Mae Lynch. Linda’s roots were deeply embedded in the rich soul of her ancestry in Whitakers, North Carolina. Within the Lynch family, Linda was the second oldest among her five remarkable siblings: Ezell, James, William, Carey, and Anthony. Together, they formed an unbreakable bond of love and unity. Those precious moments, where they laughed until tears streamed down their faces, were treasures beyond measure.
In 1963, Linda donned her graduation gown from Swift Creek High School. After high school, Linda headed north to embark on a new life in New Jersey, where she started a career in retail. Her high school sweetheart, Garland Jones, wasn’t far away. He followed in her footsteps and moved up north. The two married in 1966. Their union resulted in the births of three girls, Sandra, Camila, and Andrea.
Linda loved children so much that she opened a daycare in her home. As a childcare provider, she helped to raise and care for little ones for over 30 years. When Linda retired the business, she and Garland moved from New Jersey to Williamsburg, Virginia. The couple enjoyed retirement until Linda decided to take a job in the Williamsburg-James City County School system. Her position as a Nutrition Assistant at DJ Montague Elementary School inspired her to do more. She embraced everyone she met with her beautiful spirit during her stint at Golden Corral.
Linda was deeply rooted in her faith. She and Garland joined New Zion Baptist Church in Williamsburg, where she was a member of the Usher ministry. Besides her devotion to the church, cooking was Linda’s passion. Whether it was a big family meal or experimenting with a new recipe, you could always find her in the kitchen. Not to mention, she was adamant about eating healthy. Linda always loved dancing with the grandkids and showing them how it was done.
She was a living testament to the immense capacity of the human heart to love and uplift. We basked in her glow and we reveled in her laughter.
Linda was preceded in death by two siblings, William Lynch and Carey Lynch.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Garland Jones; daughters, Sandra Jones Singleton (Terence), Camila Strother (Damouth), and Andrea Inamdar (Anup); grandchildren, Terence Singleton II, Jarrett Rawles, Giavanna Morrison, Mateo Morrison, Nikhil Inamdar, and Ketan Inamdar; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Linda B. Jones, is forever etched in our hearts, an irreplaceable fragment of the tapestry of our lives.
A service to celebrate Linda’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 27, 2024, at New Zion Baptist Church. Interment to follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Mrs. Jones may be viewed in the church on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. until the hour of her service.
