Lynda Anne Dunkley, 63, of Newport News

Lynda Anne Dunkley (Weymouth Funeral Home & Crematory)

Lynda Anne Dunkley, loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, passed away to her eternal home in Heaven on Sunday, December 24, 2023 at the age of 63.

Lynda was born and raised in Newport News, Virginia. She later resided in York County for many years with her late husband, Mason and their son, Evan. Lynda graduated from Menchville High School in 1979, where she was active in Campus Life and their singing ministries. Music remained a passion all her life. She furthered her education at Christopher Newport College and Thomas Nelson Community College. She worked at Newport News Shipbuilding in the O14 Drawing Department as a drawing clerk for 20 years. In addition, she did bookkeeping and tax preparations for businesses and individuals.

Lynda was a generous and kind woman who was devoted to her family, especially her cherished son, Evan. She loved seeing him smile and celebrated his every milestone. She treasured their family time together, especially vacations in the mountains of Virginia and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. It brought her great joy spending time with all of her nieces and nephews, making them laugh. She was first in line to watch over each and every one. Her love for thrifting and finding treasures kept all of us in toys, clothes, and vintage finds for many years. She enjoyed the challenge of finding whatever friends and family said they needed.

In recent days, Lynda made every effort to visit with Evan or her siblings as often as she could, whether by phone or in person. She was always genuinely interested about what was happening in your life. We all loved seeing her smile and hearing her endearing laughter. Lynda never met a stranger. If you were nearby, she would strike up a conversation with you where you would feel her caring and loving spirit. We are certain that now she has finished her race, she is walking the streets of gold, talking and laughing with loved ones and everyone she meets along the way.

Lynda was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Mason Dunkley; her mother, Mary Jo (Wilmer) Ball and her father, Elwood Sheridan Ball.

She leaves behind her cherished son, Evan Dunkley; her siblings: Susan Knight, Ann and Jere Null, James and Jamie Ball, Nancy and Todd Rose, Jenny and Butch Jones and her many nieces and nephews: Lauren Null, Aaron Null, Emily Ball and Kent Chapmen, Lindsey and McClain Felty, Cathryn and James Sherrill, Rachel and Erik Rose, Abigail Rose, Jordan and Julie Ball, Aubrey Jones, Jacob Jones, and Mary Jones, as well as her extended family and friends.

She will be greatly missed by those who love her here on Earth, until we see her again in Heaven.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at noon on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Weymouth Funeral Home in Newport News. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

John 5:24 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My Word, and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.
