Craig Antonio Matthews quietly departed this life for Heaven on Saturday, December 2, 2023. His life’s journey began on September 11, 1961, as the first-born son of Morris and the late Shirley Lightfoot Matthews.

Craig was educated in Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools. Following, he joined the United States Marine Corps, from which he was honorably discharged. For the past thirty-three years, Craig committed his skills to being a forklift operator for Liberty Warehouse in Williamsburg.

Craig’s hobbies included spending time with his closest friends and racing cars. Before the name change, he was a dedicated Washington Redskins fan, collecting paraphernalia of all sorts and watching their games with hope and excitement. Most of all, Craig’s favorite role was that of “big brother” to his siblings. He will be missed for his unique sayings and lively laughter.

He leaves to cherish his blessed memories, his honorary daughter, Tashawndae Baker; father, Morris Matthews, brothers, Graig Matthews (Nikki), Michael Matthews (Geraldine), Morris Matthews (LaQuisha), Timothy Matthews (Kimberly), Tracy Matthews (Dedra), Charles Matthews, Gary Matthews, Thomas Robinson, and Christopher Robinson; sisters, Vertanna Billups (Anthony), Veronica Matthews, Vern Pryor (Harold), Verlene Judkins (Gregory), Vernitra Reed (Jerry), Veronda Matthews, and Britney Marrow; closest friends, John Wallace, Stacy Christian, and Jamie Thomas; and an abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatices, and friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon on Friday, December 8, 2023, at St. John Baptist Church-Toano with a viewing beginning at 11 a.m. Interment with military honors to follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park.
