Ninna Gudmundsdottir Snead, 94, delicately passed away at her home on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.
Born in Reykjavik, Iceland, she moved to the States in 1952 and Newport News, VA in 1960. Better known as “Gaga”, especially by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Ninna spent most of her years as a nurse. Being a nurse was an immaculate fit for her, as she was perpetually helping and taking care of others. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all that crossed her path. Ninna was also an animal lover and owned many dogs over the years. Her dogs were a huge part of her life and she was a devoted “mom” to all of them. In her retirement years, Ninna enjoyed being a grandmother/great-grandmother, watching her favorite TV shows, such as Judge Judy and shopping; you certainly could not get a sale past her.
Ninna was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Coleman Snead and her sons, Hal Snead and Ricky Snead. She is survived by her children, Phyllis Rickard (Terry), Gardner Snead (Bonnie) and Anton Valgarosson (Anna); her grandchildren, Guorun Antonsdottir and Fray Snead and her great-grandchildren, Kristinn Karl Jonsson, Alex Grettir Hlynsson and Rilynn Snead.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Peninsula Memorial Park, 12750 Warwick Blvd, Newport News, VA 23606.
