Richard John (Dick) Baumler, Sr. passed away peacefully at his home on October 20, 2023 at the glorious age of 93. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Joan Baumler.
He was born in the Bronx, New York. He grew up in New York City and graduated from the New York Maritime College as a Marine Engineer. He then served in the United States Navy on board the USS Joyce before returning to civilian life as an engineer with the Newport News Shipyard. Subsequently, he became a consultant for World City Corporation for the design of a cruise ship.
Richard and Joan loved to travel and had many adventures around the world in their 67-year marriage. Richard loved golf and woodworking, and was always available, and able, for any house or yard projects that needed to be done. He was a founding member of Reformation Lutheran Church in Newport News, VA.
He will be greatly missed by his children, Richard Baumler, Jr. (Mary Jo), Linda Baumler, and Susan Clark (Steve); four grandchildren: Steven Clark (Samantha), Travis Clark (Katie), Jill Kleine (Rick), and Anne Thuma (Robert); seven great-grandchildren and his two companions, Nan and Debbie.
There will be a private family celebration. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Richard’s memory to the Virginia Living Museum or any charity of choice.
