It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Chief Taswell Brown, who left us peacefully on September 28, 2023.
Born on June 19, 1944, Taswell lived a fulfilling life, brilliantly framed by love, service, and dedication. His presence will be deeply missed, yet his legacy ceaselessly marches forward in the hearts of those he touched.
He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Rivers (Kevin), son, Todd Brown (Natasha), grandchildren, Josh Rivers (Sam), Kelsey Fentanes (Josh), Lindsey Rivers, Lina Brown and Ally Brown. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Janice Brown, and his son, Michael Brown.
Taswell and Janice got married in 1966. Together, they built a life centered on love, faith, community, and commitment to duty. He was a member of the Liberty Live Church, participating actively as an usher every Sunday morning. It was also here where he shared his values, lessons, and wisdom with everyone.
Unmatched in his generosity, kindness, and love, Taswell was a beacon of warmth and support to everyone he met. His heart was large, often going out of his way to help others, even in the most challenging of times. His memory will undoubtedly be kept alive, as we continue to remember and cherish the nature of his influential personality.
Known for his deep-seated dedication and hard work, Taswell served in the US Navy for an impressive 30 years. He embodied the very spirit of service and was known for his indomitable courage and resilience. The lessons he learned and the experiences he gathered during his service were invaluable, shaping him into the remarkable man that he was.
Following his commendable service, Taswell further dedicated over 20 years of his life to the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. His diligence and dedication cemented him as an invaluable employee and left an indelible mark on the shipyard. Taswell will long be remembered for his steadfast commitment and remarkable work ethic.
Taswell was a man of simple tastes. He relished Mountain Dew, loved the music of Greater Vision, and was a steadfast supporter of the New Orleans Saints. In his free time, Taswell could be found working in the yard – an activity he found relaxing and fulfilling.
A memorial service for Taswell will be held on November 11, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Liberty Live Church with visitation preceding the service at 10 a.m. We invite all those who knew Chief Taswell Brown to join us in commemorating and celebrating this remarkable man’s life.
