Susan Marie Oeters Bolen, 76, passed away on July 20, 2023, at her residence in Williamsburg, Virginia after a brief illness.
She was born to the late Leroy and Margaret Oeters and was raised in the City of Fredericksburg before the family moved to Ferry Farms in Stafford County, Virginia. She attended Montfort Academy and then Stafford High School, where she graduated as an honor student and was active in many clubs, and was a varsity cheerleader. She then graduated as a registered nurse from the Stuart Circle Hospital School of Nursing in Richmond, Virginia. Her nursing career took her to many locations including time spent in Honolulu, Hawaii where she helped tend to American soldiers wounded in the Vietnam War.
Following her time as an RN she settled in Williamsburg, Virginia, and became active with Saint Bede Catholic Church and continued to help and inspire people through her association with the church. A dear friend of hers noted that she had a beautiful singing voice. Susan had a love for gardening and would often be seen tending to plants and flowers around her apartment project.
She committed her life to the service of her savior Jesus Christ who has called her home. She is survived by a brother, William “Bill” Oeters and his wife Lynn, nephews, Devon Oeters and Brian Oeters (Melissa), and grandnephew, Archer.
A memorial mass will be held at 1 p.m., August 19, 2023, at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham. Donations may also be made to Saint Bede Catholic Church, 3686 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg, Va. 23188, in memory of Susan.
