We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our mother, Louise Stewart Lominac, 92, on July 27, 2023. God tells us that “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints” which is the promise she held on to since her beloved husband of 58 years, Harold R. Lominac, predeceased her in 2012.
She was born in Hyde County NC on Aug 19,1930 and was the youngest daughter of Rev. Elliott Rufus Stewart and Leafy Mae Brown, who as Baptist state missionary pastors established several churches in Hyde County, North Carolina, and surrounding areas. This gave her some of her favorite stories she would share about being a “pastor’s kid” and struggling with malaria as a young girl.
A graduate of Meredith College and a retired music schoolteacher, she pursued sharing music throughout her life while playing her piano and being a part of choirs in California and Williamsburg. Her greatest joy was her lifelong dedication to studying, writing, and teaching her faith. This began at the feet of her mother who would teach her bible stories and show her humility in service as a life pursuit. At Morgan Hill Presbyterian Church in California, decades of daily prayer, Bible Study Fellowship, Sisters in Service, Rick and Mick Ministries and community bible teaching began. The wonderful team of Sentara and Windsormeade who provided hospice care, noted the beautiful prayers she would continually offer up thru her last days.
Louise is survived by her daughter Amy Payton Fitzgerald (Thomas) Grandson’s Christopher, Patrick (Christie) and Samuel, sister-in-law’s Doris Sherman and Ann Kanoy, brother-in-law Rex Lominac, daughter-in-law Kris Lominac, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends who she always enjoyed fellowshipping with over a cup of tea. She is predeceased by two sons, David and Stephen Lominac, brothers Thomas, Elliott, and James Stewart, sister Evelyn Everett and former son-in-law Michael Payton.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 pm on Thursday, July 6, at Bucktrout Funeral Home, 4124 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188. A funeral service will be held at Williamsburg Community Chapel at 9:30 am on Friday July 7 followed by a 2pm internment at Montlawn Cemetery in Raleigh, NC.
