Louise E. Pryor of Newport News

Louise E. Pryor (Weymouth Funeral Home & Crematory)

Louise E. Pryor, a beacon of love, strength, and devotion to her family, peacefully departed this world in her sleep on June 18, 2023. She now joins her beloved husband, Delancey O. Pryor Sr., in eternal rest. Louise’s unwavering love and cherished memories will forever be etched in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known her.

Born in the city of Wilmington, Delaware, Louise’s life was filled with devotion and unwavering commitment to her loved ones. She was the daughter of Florence Davis. She cherished her connections with extended family, frequently visiting her beloved Aunt Dot and Uncle Danny, who brought joy and warmth into her life.

Louise’s most significant role was that of a loving homemaker, nurturing a beautiful family of her own. She married the love of her life at 18, Delancey O. Pryor Sr., and together they enjoyed 63 years of love, support, and togetherness. As a military spouse, she traversed the globe, following her husband’s service in the Marines. Their journey took them to enchanting places such as Hawaii, South Carolina, and ultimately Virginia, where they established their forever home and created a lifetime of cherished memories.

Devoted to her role as a mother, Louise poured her heart and soul into raising her four children. Though she endured the heartbreaking loss of her second son, John Medford, and daughters Sharon and Mary, her love and affection for her surviving children, Karen and Dan, remained an unwavering beacon of strength. Karen held a special place in her heart, as she assumed the role of caregiver to Louise, while Dan stood as a pillar of support and love.

Louise’s legacy extends beyond her immediate family, as she leaves behind a remarkable lineage of ten grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Each one carries a piece of her spirit, forever connecting them to the matriarch who nurtured and guided them throughout their lives.

In her leisure time, Louise reveled in the simple joys of life. She delighted in the early parenting years spent on the beach with her children, created lasting memories during family camping trips in their trusty RV, and was an avid fan of Tiger Woods. Her passion for cooking was legendary, though her recipes remained a closely guarded secret. Louise found joy in sharing her culinary creations with family and friends, drawing inspiration from the timeless recipes of Betty Crocker. She relished her pool that she talked her husband into building years ago, inviting others to bask in its refreshing waters, creating bonds of friendship and laughter that would endure for years.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at Weymouth Funeral Home, 12746 Nettles Dr, Newport News, VA 23606. A Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.

Friends, family, and all those touched by Louise’s radiant spirit are invited to join in celebrating her remarkable life and bidding her farewell. As we gather to remember her, let us cherish the memories, the laughter, and the immeasurable love she shared with each and every one of us.

Louise E. Pryor will forever be treasured as a loving mother, doting grandmother, and loyal friend. Her legacy of devotion, kindness, and unyielding love will continue to inspire all those who had the privilege of knowing her. As we mourn her passing, may we also celebrate the beautiful life she lived and honor her memory by embracing the virtues she held dear.

Flowers may be sent directly to the funeral home as a beautiful tribute to her memory. Your thoughtful gestures of floral arrangements will serve as a symbol of love and support during this difficult time.
