Frank “Skip” Scanlon was born April 30, 1937 to Arthur Francis Scanlon and June Elizabeth Scanlon (of Irish descent), in Los Angeles, California. He was the first of eight children. He grew up in and around Los Angeles. At the age of 19 years old he joined the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman eventually becoming the rank of E9. He was Master Chief of the Command at Portsmouth Naval Hospital when he retired.
During his Naval career, he served on ships as a Hospital Corpsman as well as doing two tours in Vietnam, one as a Medic with the Marine Corps. While in the Navy, he earned his B.S. in Accounting and a Masters in Public Administration. He became the Supervisor of Environmental Health of the Virginia Beach Public Health Department.
Skip married the love of his life, Annette McGraw of Eutaw, Alabama in 1957. They shared a lifetime of travel. Their eldest daughter Cynthia Ann was born in 1957 in Pensacola, Florida. Their second daughter Kimberley Scanlon was born in 1960 in Naples, Italy.
Skip’s sense of humor endeared him to friends and coworkers alike. He adored his wife, family, and all things Irish. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, coworker, and a friend to all he encountered.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Cindy Scanlon-Cook (Kenyon) and Kimberley Scanlon Trax (David), granddaughter Rebecca Meredeith Trax (Zachary Beals). His first grandchild Kyle David Trax predeceased him.
You are adored daddy, and we know that one day we will all be together again as a family.
